On Dec. we are went to a sculpture Exhibition about very famouse sculptor Wu weishan cultural figures gallery of Nanjing museum.

Wu Weishan is a pre-eminent sculptor of the new generation, having found his artistic maturity after the opening-up of China in the 1980s and subsequent developments in the world of art. His sculptures are highly praised for the blending of Chinese traditional styles with elements of modern sculpture.

He gave me the deepest impression left by a work is "Laozi".It is traditional work.

DESCRIBE the artwork

This work's title is "Laozi"(he is one of the most famous Chinese ideologist). He made it in 2005 .It is a tradition work about person, Lao zi he is very famous thinker in ancient China who affects many people.Its height is 18m, its color is like bronze, abdomen is empty with all the morals of confucian classics carved in it, it means Lao zi full of ideas for state policy cover and contains all of things. Lao zi's index finger is held, which means there is only one truth in the world.

INTERPRET the artwork

I feel so crazy, it is so high about 18m, made so finely, its expression clear and distinct. Amazing, it so high make it very diffcult. Lao zi is very famous thinker in the wold. Along time ago I saw his statue, but this one is bigger that that. It is Wu Weishan's most famouse artworks, it attracts our attention. The artist's intention is to borrow Lao zi's idea tell eveyone just have one truth in the wold pass on to later generations.

JUDGE the artwork

I like this artwork, beause sculpture in a sense surmounts itself. This artwork moulds half of the body of Lao zi, his abdomen is empty, all the morals of confucian classics are caved in it. I think other people might appreciate the artwork, beause this artwork is so high it really attracts atention, it also is Wu Weishan's famouse artwork, and is worth thinking deeply about.
