VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

I did the volunteer work with my friends in an old people's home for 10 hours during this winter vacation and I have learnt a lot.

As soon as we arrived, the elderly looked us with nice smiles. I saw some of them can not walk without wheelchairs and some even are pursued by countless ailments and afflictions. I sat beside a woman who wore a red sweater and I was given a really lonely feeling when I was looking at her face. I tried to talk to her and it seems she was willing to communicate with others. After a short dialogue, I supported her leave the house with her hand and stood in the sun and that is good for her health to enjoy the sunshine. I wanted to make her feel happy so I asked her if she likes singing and I got a positive answer, then we sang some old songs together and she became quite delighted.

She told me that most of them who live there can not meet their sons or daughters as the usual families and she said that she missed them a lot and felt lonely when they are alone; also, she likes staying with us because we can bring them happiness and comfort. At lunchtime, all the elderly there sat around a round table and my friends and I said many funny things to create a pleasure atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves at that time. And then, we took a walk in the near park.
After that They love to talk and they need to talk, they are the special groups who need our attention and care. We should be patient, polite and careful to them. They need love and I found that they are kind and easy-going. We are young and we can learn a lot of experience from them and they have many stories. It is an excellent chance to practise my patience and cultivate the mind of love. It is also the responsibility for every civil to care people who are in need.
